Twelfth Grade I Started Doing The School Musical - 1819 Words

In eighth grade I started doing the school musical. My first musical was â€Å"High School Musical,† where I played a skater. In practices the cast bonded as close as a family. We spent 3 months, day and night constantly working on our production. The moment I stepped into the bright lights, I found a love for theatre. Ninth grade came and of course I was there, playing a townsperson in, â€Å"The Wiz.† That year I grew really close to my directors and more of my classmates, as we â€Å"Eased on down the road,† to opening night. Once again the blinding lights, the cheerful audience, the music playing through the auditorium, and standing ovation at the end was something I will never forget. Although that cast had its fights, but so do families. The end of that year, I thought my whole world was tumbling down. My current musical directors were giving up the position. The school did not have a director at the time, and all I could think was, â€Å"What do I do now?† The school musical was the only thing I looked forward to during high school. Then during class one day, â€Å"All students interested in doing the musical this year, there will be a meeting in the auditorium at three o’clock,† came over the system. That year we had a very unexperienced set of directors. That year was a train wreck. The constant bickering, because of the artistic differences. That musical was, â€Å"Footloose,† and there was a late addition to the directing cast that saved the musical and explained to the cast thatShow MoreRelatedEducation: Extracurricular Activities2653 Words   |  11 PagesWhat I Already Know, and What I Want to Know Extracurricular activities are a branch of the educational system that I have a personal connection to and I would hate to see them disappear. Enders gameenders empathic a Essay Example For Students

Enders gameenders empathic a Essay Enders Empathic Abilities Orson Scott Cards work of science fiction, Enders Game, is the exciting and poignant tale of a genius, Ender Wiggin, whom the Government takes from home at an early age to mold into a military commander. From his turbulent childhood, to his days at the physically and psychologically taxing Battle School, to his conquest of the buggers and ultimate colonization of their world, the most essential and useful aspect of Enders prodigious genius is his incredible empathic ability. From the portrayal of his early childhood in the novels first chapters, it seems that Ender developed this empathic ability as both a physical and psychological defense against the many truculent characters in his life, such as his enemy in school, Stilson, and his older brother, Peter. The usefulness and necessity of Enders empathy manifest themselves again at the battle school, where it helps Ender immeasurably to defeat his enemies, both in and out of the game room. Lastly, towards the novels end, Enders empat hy takes on a much more universal significance when it first allows him to win the war for humanity against the buggers, and then at last is put to a more peaceful use, when Ender becomes a speaker for the dead. From the very beginning of the novel, Enders extraordinary empathic abilities are quite conspicuous. The first time the reader encounters Ender, in fact, he is making a very perspicacious observation about the way adults lie to children. A woman in charge of the maintenance of a monitor attached since birth to the back of Enders head had told him that it was at last time for the monitor to come off, and that it wont hurt a bit. Enders response is a clear reflection of his empathic abilities. He ruminates, It was a lie, of course, that it wouldnt hurt a bit. But since adults always said it when it was going to hurt, he could count on that statement as an accurate prediction of the future. Sometimes lies were more dependable than truth. Ender, here, has not only essentially read the mind of the monitor lady, but has also demonstrated his personal knowledge of a universal habit of adults lying to children about certain things, such as pain. A short while later in the novel, still before he departs for battle school, Ender demonstrates even more dramatically the expediency of his empathic ability. The very day his monitor is removed, Ender is attacked by the leader of a gang in his school, Stilson. Ender manages to kick Stilson so that he falls down, and appears to be unconscious. Ender comes to the resolution that the only way to make sure that he never is picked on again is to scare Stilson and his gang so much that they never dare touch him. Enders words and actions, in the following scene, are all calculated to make his point quite clear, So Ender walked to Stilsons supine body and kicked him againThen Ender looked at the others coldly. You might having some idea of ganging up on me. You could probably beat me up pretty bad. But just remember what I do to people who try to hurt me. From then on youd be wondering when Id get you, and how bad it would be. He kicked Stilson in the face. Blood from his nose spattered the ground nearby. It wouldnt be this bad, Ender said. It would be worse. Indeed, Enders empathic abilities, in this case, prove themselves quite clearly, by the reaction of the other boys, which is just as Ender intended nobody followed himHe could hear the boys behind him saying, Geez, Look at him, Hes wasted. Perhaps even more than at home, Enders employs his empathic abilities often and with great success at battle school. By the end of his stay, it has become clear that, of all his extraordinary abilities, his empathy is the most useful and necessary to his survival. .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 , .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .postImageUrl , .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 , .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:hover , .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:visited , .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:active { border:0!important; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:active , .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39 .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf57584308f0519d9aa48e41612237a39:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Libel And Invasion Of Privacy Essay One of the most obvious and significant reflections of Enders empathy in battle school comes in his fight with Bonzo in the shower. History of the Multiculturalism Movement in 1980

Table of Contents Introduction Body Conclusion Works Cited Introduction Multicultural movement refers to a coalition of university students formed 1980s that included students from diverse groups. These groups were against oppressive trends of governance and running of affairs by the university administration (Pedersen 45). This was mainly to address the need for fairness and justice to all regardless of their gender, color or race.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on History of the Multiculturalism Movement in 1980 specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The urge to form these groups came because; the white discriminated against other colors and females. For example, teaching in universities was for the white while administration dues were given to females. Body In 1960sthere were a series of cases of discrimination where people from different cultural backgrounds were treated in an inhumane manner. This led to increased number of protests from the youth and other positive minded in the society. In 1980s, university students staged several protests aimed at holding accountable their institutions for past incidences of discrimination and racism. The multicultural movement involved diverse group of students, some university faculties and communities within their locality. They formed a coalition that understood the need to have academic resources and programs to study racial and social histories from particular societies. Their objectives were achieved because they saw the creation of black American, Asian and women studies programs and centers in their campuses. These centers had an aim of ensuring the fundamental aspects of cultural diversity are addressed in the world (Pedersen 45). This means that people from anywhere in the world will be valued and respected hence eliminating chances of discrimination. Despite students having formed several other organizations and movements, the m ulticultural movement attained credibility in a very short time hence extending to other parts of the world. This means that many people in the world were not happy with the manner in which racial discrimination was carried out. This movement was supported by many students because they felt that everyone has a right to be in this world regardless of their cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, no one chooses where to be born or their cultural backgrounds. They felt that it was important for universities to study various cultures in order to understand how people behave.Advertising Looking for critical writing on education? For example, there have been cases where students want to change aspects in their universities by claiming that they can form better workers (Ladd 87). In fact, such thoughts are politically motivated, and they can lead to collapse of learning institutions. If students are trusted with the mandate to run an institution, they may end up waving fees in their favor hence leaving the institution unable to sustain its operations. Opposition has risen recently trying to oppose specific aspects of multicultural movements, such arguments does not address the needs of students or the university but greed of some movement officials. For example, transforming universities into a war field where students keep demonstrating without genuine reason (Krishnaswamy and Hawley 234). These counterattacks of the multicultural movements aimed at controlling their unreasonable demands in order to save the universities. For example, multicultural movements may decide to protests demanding that they want fees reduced in favor of the poor in the society. Conclusion Therefore, every learning institution needs funds to sustain i ts operations hence having to collect some fees from students. This is vital and further reduction of fees may leave institutions unable to equip their resource centers. This may lead institutions to a state where they lack credibility since they cannot give to the students the right information they may require. Works Cited Krishnaswamy, Revathi. and Hawley, John C. The Battle to Save the Ozone Layer - CFC Hazards

The Battle to Save the Ozone Layer - CFC Hazards Ozone depletion is a crucial environmental problem on Earth. The growing concern over CFC production and the hole in the ozone layer is causing alarm among scientists and citizens. A battle has ensued to protect Earths ozone layer. In the war to save the ozone layer, and you may be at risk. The enemy is far, far away. 93 million miles away to be exact. It is the sun. Each day the Sun is a vicious warrior constantly bombarding and attacking our earth with harmful Ultra Violet radiation (UV). Earth has a shield to protect against this constant bombardment of harmful UV radiation. It is the ozone layer. The Ozone Layer is Earths Protector Ozone is a gas that is constantly formed and reformed in our atmosphere. With the chemical formula O3, it is our defense against the Sun. Without the ozone layer, our Earth would become a barren wasteland on which little to no life could exist. UV radiation causes a host of problems for plants, animals, and humans including dangerous melanoma cancers. Watch a short video clip on the ozone layer as it provides protection to Earth from harmful solar radiation. (27 seconds, MPEG-1, 3 MB) Ozone Destruction is Not All Bad. Ozone is supposed to break up in the atmosphere. The reactions taking place high in our atmosphere are a part of a complex cycle. Here, another video clip shows a close-up view of ozone molecules absorbing solar radiation. Notice the incoming radiation breaks apart ozone molecules to form O2. These O2 molecules are later rejoined to form ozone again. (29 seconds, MPEG-1, 3 MB) Is There Really a Hole in the Ozone? The ozone layer exists in a layer of the atmosphere known as the stratosphere. The stratosphere is directly above the layer that we live in known as the troposphere. The stratosphere is approximately 10-50 kilometers above the Earths surface. The diagram below shows a high concentration of ozone particles at about 35-40 km in altitude. But the ozone layer has a hole in it!†¦or does it? Although commonly nicknamed a hole, the ozone layer is a gas and cannot technically have a hole in it. Try punching the air in front of you. Does it leave a â€Å"hole†? No. But ozone CAN be severely depleted in our atmosphere. The air around the Antarctic is severely depleted of atmospheric ozone. This is said to be the Antarctic Ozone Hole. How is the Ozone Hole Measured? The measurement of the ozone hole is made using something called a Dobson Unit. Technically speaking, â€Å"One Dobson Unit is the number of molecules of ozone that would be required to create a layer of pure ozone 0.01 millimeters thick at a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius and a pressure of 1 atmosphere†. Lets make some sense of that definition... Normally, the air has an ozone measurement of 300 Dobson Units. This is equivalent to a layer of ozone 3mm (.12 inches) thick over the entire earth. A good example is the height of two pennies stacked together. The ozone hole is more like the thickness of one dime or 220 Dobson Units! If the level of ozone drops below 220 Dobson Units, it is considered to be a part of the depleted area or â€Å"hole†. Causes for the Ozone Hole Once in the stratosphere, UV radiation break apart the CFC molecules into dangerous chlorine compounds which are known Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS). The chlorine literally slams into the ozone and breaks it apart. In the atmosphere a single chlorine atom can break apart ozone molecules again and again and again. Watch the video clip showing the break-up of ozone molecules by chlorine atoms.(55 seconds, MPEG-1, 7 MB) Have CFCs Been Banned? The Montreal Protocol in 1987 was an international commitment to reduce and eliminate the use of CFCs. The treaty was later amended to ban CFC production after 1995. As part of Title VI of the Clean Air Act, all Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) were monitored and conditions were set forth for their use. Initially, the amendments were to phase out ODS production by the year 2000, but it was later decided to accelerate the phase out to 1995. Will we win the war? Suez Crisis Essay Example for Free

Suez Crisis Essay Lee states, ‘There was no internal split in the Conservative party’. Kilmuir agrees with this, and goes onto talk about, ‘Our most lost party workers, although dismayed by our handling of the situation were consumed with the hatred of the Labour party. ’ Which means even though they were going through a tough situation the Conservatives kept a strong front and were all in it together against Labour; even the media gave publicity in which spread the disgust to the public about the Labour party. Overall it shows Labour actually had it worse off; they weren’t popular with the public at the time, this later shows at the 1959 general election as Macmillan takes a victory for the Conservatives. On the other hand, Kilmuir was a member of the Conservatives at the time and he might have wanted to give the public the idea that the situation wasn’t as bad as it seemed as his party just caused a major international tensions with our allies. Although he does admit that, ‘Even the most hostile critics of the Conservative party’ had their doubtful moments in the party giving the idea that the party had nothing to hide and that its members knew there would be some slight internal tensions. Opposing the statement, in Source 4, Rowe tells us that after the Suez Crisis, ‘†¦there as a sharp economic crisis’ and that, ‘Politically, Eden was finished. ’. This was true about the economy as there was a international run on sterling, which threatened Britain with economic collapse with no hope of the USA willing to bale Britain out. There were further large withdrawals of deposits by international investors which lead to a major fall in Britain’s currency reserves. This of course damaged the Conservatives greatly as Britain was still trying to recover economically from WWII and this crisis set Britain back about 4 years economically according to an account from Gaitskell; being from the Labour party he may of exaggerated some of these numbers as he produced no evidence of his findings. It also did finish Eden apparently; as he was removed from the party but in Source 5 it says it was because of ‘ill health’ not because of the Crisis itself. People expected R. A. Butler to take over but as he wasn’t much help during the crisis when he took over from Eden. It was actually Macmillan who took control of the Conservatives. Showing the Conservatives they had to change their party structure because they had been damaged by leading Britain into this crisis. Overall, to a certain extent I disagree with the statement because I think that Eden was damaged significantly by the Suez Crisis as he lead Britain into some economic problems which left him politically finished. However, to a larger extent I agree with the statement that it did no damage to the fortunes of the Conservative party even though it had some short term damage at the beginning for example, Eden was removed and they had to shuffle the party leadership, Macmillan then saved the party and won the later 1959 General election with the increasing of public consumption resulting in a period of affluence whilst Labour was left in the gutter constantly in internal party feuds leaving the Conservatives victorious and prosperous.
